The advancement of a nation in the future is determined by the quality of education and human resources exist today. If we don’t prepare them as well as possible, then it is not impossible for the nation to be left behind and to be unable to compete in the global competitive landscape is getting tighter. Especially in the era of free market world as it is today. As said Didik Kuntadi, Advisor PT. Aneka Tambang (Antam), while visiting Universitas Gadjah Mada on Thursday (23/12) afternoon.

“We must realize that the future of an organization and country depends on the quality of its human resources, so it is necessary to prepare our human resources as well and early as possible so as to be able to compete with other countries in the world,” said Didik.

The professional who experts in the field of Human Resources and Government Relation in various multinational companies assessed that Indonesian human resource is quite able to compete in the global sphere. According to him, it’s just that the confidence to demonstrate capabilities and English communication still need to be improved. University as an educational institution also has an important role in building softskills and networking for future generations.

“Competition in the future will get tougher and we have to prepare ourselves, especially about courage, confidence, and English communication. Prioritizing the principle of ‘I CAN DO’ namely Integrity, Commitment, Attitude, Networking, Discipline and Orderly,” he said.

Similar thing also conveyed Dwi Bagus Hariyanto, from PT Smelting, who participated along with Didik. According to the Psychology UGM alumnus, the quality of human resource of Indonesian workforce can already be trusted by the global community. This is proven by the entire operation of PT Smelting that is held by Indonesian human resources.

“Initially underestimate, after seeing our abilities, the world now recognizes that the quality of Indonesian human resource is excelent and par with developed nations’ such as Japan, even some are trusted to hold key positions in multinational companies,” he said.

According to Dwi, Indonesian human resource is already qualified in terms of knowledge (hardskill) and softskill such as attitude. But the lack of self-confidence and communication skill make the world underestimate them.

“Communication is important, especially English. And do not feel inferior because other nations will start underestimating, be confident over your capability,” he said.

Both came to Universitas Gadjah Mada in order to establish communication and discussion with higher education institutions about the recruitments that are being held by the companies. Their arrival was warmly welcomed by Dr. Paripurna, Vice Rector for Cooperation and Alumni UGM and Dr. Sulistyowati, Head of Sub-directorate of Alumni Relation UGM at Universitas Gadjah Mada Rectorate Room.
